An illustrated bilingual children’s book in English and Spanish. The story is told from the separate perspectives of two children, one child in English, the other in Spanish. Readers can decide which language or child to start with; then they flip the book over and read the other child’s story in the other language.
In the first half of the Spanish pages, the little girl, Diana, explains how uncomfortable she felt at school at first, and how finally she came to learn her classmate Tony’s name; the first few pages of Tony’s story (in English) explain why he is so happy to meet Diana. Once the two start playing with each other, their stories, that we call “The Power of TWO,” are now direct translations of each other. The two stories meet at the centerfold of the book.
Each story includes a note to Caregivers (one in English and one in Spanish) which highlight the message of the story:
The children discover–each in their own way–what a gift it is to be bilingual;
The parents learn about what they can do to help the children become bilingual.

Why I wrote this book
I have spent my career trying to understand children who live in two languages — how they learn, how they’re tested, and how they’re seen. TWO Children Share TWO Languages is my way of letting children who live in two languages speak for themselves.
I want them to help us appreciate the experience of being bilingual from their point of view.
